Summary
One country with two different systems? No way! The Taiwanese are very clear about it: they will not accept at all that China has power over them. Under the leadership of China’s President Xi Jinping, Taiwan is more than ever attracting the covetousness of its powerful neighbour, which has never recognised Taiwan’s independence and which, like Hong Kong, wants to take Taiwan back into its fold.
Taiwan wants to protect itself from Beijing’s pressure, so they are fighting back with their own flag, anthem, currency, language and institutions with innovative democracy fuelled by digital technology.
